Many people are asking me what the property tax amendment contains and how it will affect them. I am not an attorney, so you will excuse me if I do not interpret the fine points of the amendment. I have, however, put the text of the amendment on my blog so that you can download it using a link further down in this message. In general you will find the text pretty straight forward. But once you have read it, you may wish to contact your local county property appraiser's office to see how it could change your taxes in future years. My understanding is that there will even be some benefits for non-homesteaded homeowners, such as our winter residents.
You can visit my website at: www.jelwell.century21bnr.com Click on the County Property Appraisers menu button on the left and you will find direct links to several local county property appraisers' sites. If yours is not listed there I have also created a link that will show you all of the county appraiser websites in the entire state. Just click on the one in which your property is located. I have been told that many counties are holding public forums where citizens can get information and ask questions so that they can better understand what they will be voting for or against come the end of the month.
To download a copy of the entire amendment in Adobe PDF format, click on the following link: Download 2008_proposedproperty_tax.pdf The first two pages of the document will be of greatest interest to homeowners.
